The EU-funded project ‘Aware and Resilient’ (2013-2015) description

As mentioned in subchapter 3.1.4 (France) and 3.5.4 (Bulgaria) (see source document for the full text), a recent EU-funded project called ‘Aware and Resilient’ was also implemented in Romania with the aim of raising disaster readiness, especially among young people. The project was co-ordinated by the Austrian Red Cross and carried out with Red Cross partners in Bulgaria, France, Latvia and Romania and ran from April 2013 to May 2015.

Recommendations:

• Use trustworthy, widespread, multi-lingual, culturally appropriate and inclusive means of alerting the target population in case of disasters
• Use cultural factors to improve the effectiveness of disaster communication
