If we further examine the relationship between public communication and risk perception, a very important problem is the problem of trust regarding the public's relation to the authorities and science experts (Oltedal et al. 2004). The claims by authorities and science experts are often seen as not in citizens' interests and often regarded with a certain amount of scepticism (Lash, 2000; Rose, 2000).
